A collective effort: The Evening Harold

Hi,

A group of us who met online have put together a 'comedy' website. It explores the world of the village of Harold: an entirely fictitious community, just outside Dunstable.

We've been going for about 2 weeks, with lots of updates each day. If anyone could do us the considerable honour of having a look at http://eveningharold.com we'd love some feedback.

It's a mix of satire, stupidity and drama. We're enjoying writing it, and when we get round to self-hosting, we'll throw the doors open to contributors. But for now, we're struggling to get the 10 of us using the same name for the mayor and to spell Ron Ronsson right...

Thanks for looking, it's most awfully appreciated.

Clicked on three things and they were all funny.

Reminds me of the cover to "Thick as a Brick".

Coincidentally, Thick as a Brick was the no.1 album on the day I was born.

That's pretty damn fine.

What's good about it - the sheer amount of detail and content - might also be it's downfall.
Not sure what the answer is to that, 'cos I like the fact that all the little links go somewhere.
Good work.

Lazzard, that's something we fret about! We've got our own private wiki site for referencing everything, but at the same time we're happy to keep it a bit loose, and muck about with the continuity if we think we can get a laugh out of it.

Our enthusiasm is sky-high at the moment, we just need to find a way to publicise it on a meagre budget (I have half a barrel of homebrew and some crisps available). We're doing it for the fun of it, but it would be lovely to think someone was watching.

I'd suggest you do what a few succesful sites have done and run your big stories individually on facebook and twitter.

Marvellous stuff, I love the deadpan style - and the layout itself is better than some real papers' websites. The Tesco checkout is beautifully done. It reminds me a little of St Albion's in Private Eye a few years ago. I shall be returning from time to time for updates from the vicarage and the Doctor's surgery - wedged shampoo bottles permitting!

Super site, looks like a lot of hard work has paid off.

The Evening Harold is consistently funny. (Friendly folks as well)

I'd also recommend - http://theshovel.com.au/ & http://newstoad.net/

& shamelessly my own modest http://wrenfoewisdom.wordpress.com/

Great stuff. If your community needs a Canadian twin, how about Harold Town?

I have to tell you in case you didn't check but their is a real village called Harold a few miles from where I live in West Yorkshire :)
