Blatant Plagiarism In Pop Music

Following on from the Avril Lavigne thread and her stealing other peoples music. What other bands do you know or think have blatantly stolen other people's melodies or lyrics etc. I don't mean used samples that have been cleared, I mean stuff that has been stolen with no credit to the original artist.

Here's a couple I've picked up on:

1. Oasis - Whatever stolen from Neil Innes - How Sweet To Be An Idiot

Oasis - Whatever http://media.putfile.com/Whatever-70-9

2. Paris Hilton - Stars Are Blind stolen from UB40 - Kingston Town

Any more?

Oasis have admitted to "barrowing" melodies/riffs from The Beatles and T Rex to.

Jam - Start stolen shamelessly from Beatles - Taxman - remove Weller's voice and they're identical. Weller admitted in a interview that the one album they played on the US tour that spawned Start was Revolver (opening track - Taxman)

Manic Street Preachers 'Roses in the hospital' stolen from Bowie's 'Sound and Vision'

Manics (again) 'If you tolerate this' stolen from Stranglers 'Duchess' - they were sued and settled out of court.

All Saints did a slow piano song 'Never never' which was identical to the hymn 'Amazing Grace' Here's a muso page analysing the structure: http://www.icce.rug.nl/~soundscapes/VOLUME02/Amazing_grace_of_Never_Ever.shtml

I just always remember Vanilla Ice nicking that bit from 'Under Pressure' by Freddie Mercury and Bowie and genuinely thinking no one would notice.

He never did...

Did he?

I'm just going to say it's not nicking it's called sampling.

But still Vanilla Ice is hilarious, he tried to say that the bassline was "one note lower."

Bless him.

In America you are allowed to 'sample' songs because they have that freedom of speech thingy so I can say George Bush is a ******* **** and noone can censor me. Hah I rule. Wait a sec.

I've said before that Shine by Take That is just Mr Blue Sky by ELO

Cos UB40 are such an original band aren't they!

Have they ever written a song? White boys playing bland reggae.

Paris Hilton can sing? Is there no end to this woman's talents?

Stone Roses - Made of Stone >> The Rolling Stones - Paint it Black

Dunno, not really a UB40 fan, never heard much of their stuff just know that the Paris Hilton beat is stolen from that song. :)

*sings each song in head* Oh yeah.

Eric Clapton openly admits to thieving. But he does it in a genius way.

Lol, stealing? So what, take music, twist it, push it, squeeze it, play with it, move it around, that's what it's there for. It's so versatile, you can take one thing from a crappy song and make it crappier or better if you're lucky.

I only listen to music I like, so it doesn't bother me when some does something that won't effect my music listening.
