Not Going Out? Page 4

The irony was at NGO being the most posted on sitcom here, with each series thread having hundreds of posts, but this overall one having not many at all, but never mind. ☹️

So the question if I like it or not is neither here nor there. But since you ask, no, I hate that such a one note comedian who can't act has shoehorned his stage act into an ill fitting format, which bizarrely has become the 2nd longest running sitcom, at the obvious expense of other more genuine attempts, had the BBC not given up looking for them.

Not wasting my time watching Comic Relief I've just watched the "Not Going Beyond Paradise" sketch. Brilliant. As I watch both regularly I enjoyed all the jokes plus Sally mentioning her Channel 5 drama which I gave up on after watching just one episode.

Yeah that was actually better than I expected it would be!

EDIT: The Comic Relief sketch, that is. I didn't see her Channel 5 show.

I didn't realise they had already filmed Series 14, and it's on next month!

And another time jump - the kids are now university age and Lee and Lucy have moved to the country.

I couldn't get to the media launch event last week so am really intrigued and looking forward to seeing what happens. Feedback from people who did attend is very promising.

Interesting news. Perhaps there'll be a new regular character or couple for them to interact with, to fill the Anna/Toby/Tim/Miranda/Daisy/Frank etc. type role. I liked the one-off episodes they did in the previous series with Joe Wilkinson and Chris MacCausland - so maybe another familiar face as a regular character, like Bob Mortimer as their eccentric next door neighbour, or Matt Berry as the local farmer, or some such.

This drivel has gone on too long, it will be 20 years old next year. The new setting sounds like it's going to turn into Grace & Favour. I hope that Matt Berry is not that desperate to be in this weak conveyor belt gag BBC sitcom and he should not on morals alone after the BBC ditched Toast Of Tinseltown and cancelled the DVD release. Please BBC find someone or something new. There must hundreds of youngish sitcom writers that deserve a big break more than this.

I don't believe any are planned.

There was no such DVD ever mooted. You can, however, buy the series in HD on platforms like Amazon: https://amzn.to/4jm4bC8

I do not know this Matt Berry of whom you speak.

He's been in quite a few things - Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, The IT Crowd, House of Fools (Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer sitcom), Toast of London, Snuff Box and probably some others I've forgotten - usually rather offbeat stuff. He's known for often speaking in an overly dramatic way (he's done voice overs for adverts, I think MoneySuperMarket was one).

Admittedly, he probably wouldn't be suited to Not Going Out's traditional gag-based humour. Then again, I never would've imagined Joe Wilkinson would be appropriate for it either, but he was good in the episode he appeared in.

And he's made a few records too.

Oh we knew him as Chuck.

He's in What We Do In The Shadows, pretty good, too. I liked NGO until marriage and kids came along, to me it lost its edge after that.

New series starts on Friday 13th June. Good see Mike Wozniak in the trailer! And Matthew Kelly, who was good in the episode of Inside No9 he appeared in, showing he can play an oddball type character. They might not be regular characters, but should be good anyway.
