NME Awards/Grumpy Old Man?

I usually watch the NME Awards cos i'm cool and down with the kids (unless my parole officer is reading this) but this years NME awards made me want to kill half the people there, another third were dicks and there were only a few people who I had any respect (The Mighty Boosh for one). Anyway is this a sign that i'm becoming a grumpy old man at 22 :O

Nah I agree-some of the nominees were a joke!

I gave up on the NME last year. I bought every single issue for 9 years, but it's turned into absolute crap. The Morrissey racism row was the final straw for me. Conor McNicholls should have been sacked when he started championing The Ordinary Boys. Alas, he's been allowed to continue.

Modern music is almost without exception, utter shite.

Exactly Aaron. Bring back the Beatles is what you're trying to say.

I most certainly am not.

Too much? Well, I suppose it is to a socialist, who believes in centralised state-control rather then letting people have opinions. :)

Any awards ceremony that considers Noel Fielding deserving of a "Best Dressed" award is not worth paying attention to!

The Mancs deserved the "Godlike Genius Award" though.

Pop and Indie are the only styles of music that British record labels are interested in nowadays. If you make any other style of music, you can forget about fame and fortune. Also, British labels only seem to give deals to white artists. The only non-whites you see at British award shows are Americans. I know the NME awards are really just for Indie groups, so it's little surprise that all the nominees are white, but you'd expect the Brit Awards to at least feature a couple of non-white nominees. Then again, most UK black music nowadays is complete shit. Years ago, black kids in this country were making quality Hip hop music, but these days, they all seem to be making that horrible shit they call Grime.

I've only watched the British MTV music awards and I was astonished by the crap that was being awarded.

The NME, by and large, has always been run by and written for, a bunch of arseholes. What is slightly ironic about the magazine (especially thesedays) is that it always claims to be the champion of 'real' music, thumbing its nose at the general shallowness of pop, yet it has less loyality to the bands it initially champions than a thirteen year old girl. Within in a year of championing a band they're frequently slagging them off for some supposed slight on 'the real music fan', i.e. someone who writes for NME.

NME is a peacocks' magazine, devoid of genuine wit, passion and insight. It's a cold and cynical as the pop establishment it pretends to be outside.
