A comic drama charting a single day in the life of a number of the female staff of a central London department store in the busy run-up to Christmas.
With the staff Christmas dance that evening and a heaving shop floor, there's all manner of things to keep both the male and female staff occupied, physically and mentally.
For one, the thought of a screen test and her big break into acting keeps her going; another is desperate to hear from her fiancé, who's left in search of work. There's the troublesome, mean heads of department; frustrated love as boyfriends appear to favour their cars; and some who can't find any date for the dance at all.
