ITV has ordered a second series of variety format Sunday Night At The Palladium.

A revival of perhaps the network's first ever hit entertainment programme, Sunday Night At The London Palladium, which ran from 1955 to 1974, the new series has proved popular with viewers for the past 6 weeks.

With statistics not yet available for the final episode of the series, broadcast tonight, the previous five weeks averaged more than 3.8 million viewers each - around a 20% audience share.

Each episode of the series was hosted by a different comic personality, with the final instalment this evening fronted by Rob Brydon, who confirmed that the programme would return in the new year.

Alongside the host's own comic turns, each episode has included a number of music acts, stand-up comedy, and speciality performances such as acrobatics and dancers.

Star acts to have appeared over the six-part series include Art Garfunkel, Sarah Millican, Bryan Adams, Maroon 5, Diversity, Milton Jones, Kaiser Chiefs, Nina Conti, Lionel Ritchie, and the casts of musicals including Cats, Made In Dagenham and Evita.

The hosts in Series 1 were Stephen Mulhern, Jason Manford, Jack Whitehall, Jimmy Carr, Bradley Walsh and Rob Brydon.

Series 2 is expected to be broadcast early in 2015, with details about acts and hosts revealed nearer the time.
