North Wales set for 2015 comedy writers conference

Craft of Comedy Writing Conference 2015

Whether you're an aspiring or pro comedy writer, Llandudno in North Wales is the place to be on the 24th and 25th April 2015.

The seaside town is hosting The Craft of Comedy Writing Conference that weekend, an event which will feature a mix of networking, screenings, workshops and panel discussions.

The weekend follows on from last year's launch event, which was a big success.

The conference is aimed at those looking to write sitcom, stand-up and sketch shows for any medium; whether that be TV, radio, live or online.

The evening of Friday 24th will consist of a screening with special guest Q&A, followed by a comedy-focused quiz.

The main day on Saturday 25th will comprise of "a full day of workshops, screenings, writer's feedback and more with broadcasters, producers, writers and other leading industry professionals."

Partly funded by Arts Council of Wales and Conwy County Borough Council, the day is "aimed at people who want to break into the industry of comedy and are looking for advice on how to go about it, as well as those who are already writing and striving to get a big break."

Amongst those set to speak include Sioned Wiliam (Radio 4's new Commissioning Editor for Comedy), Kristian Smith from the BBC, TV gag writers Ged Parsons and Dave Cohen, agent Kate Haldane, Baby Cow producer Gill Isles and stand-up critic Bruce Dessau.

Steve Doherty

Steve Doherty (pictured), Managing Director of Giddy Goat Productions and co-director of the conference, says: "We're really looking forward to the event, this year. We've already got some excellent speakers confirmed, with more in the pipeline. We want to appeal to anyone with an interest in comedy - writing, performing or producing, for broadcast, online or just for fun."

Steve adds: "This sort of event is useful in lots of ways, and is unusual because it's outside London. We want to give everyone a chance to find their comic voice. We're on the beautiful north Wales coast - accessible by road and rail - and we'll be running coaches from Bangor and Salford. If the demand is there we can run transport from elsewhere, too. Get in touch - better still... buy a ticket!"

If you're interested in attending you're advised to book quickly as there is a great value discounted ticket rate available until the 14th March. Early Bird tickets are just £50 (£30 students), and include a networking lunch.

Additionally, those that book early, may have the opportunity to work with Script Angel, the professional script consultants.

The Craft of Comedy Writing Conference is at Venue Cymru in Llandudno on 24th and 25th April 2015. To find out more and book a ticket visit www.venuecymru.co.uk
