Southern Television

Southern Television was established in 1958 as one of the original ITV franchise holders. Broadcasting, as the name suggests, within the south and south-east of England, it was owned by Associated Newspapers (owners of The Daily Mail), DC Thompson (best known as publishers of The Beano and The Dandy) and film company The Rank Organisation.
Southern was not known for its comedy output, but did produce the hugely popular children's sitcom Worzel Gummidge. The station's archive was sold to Australian independent production company Southern Star Group, and is since believed to have been purchased by Endemol.
The Southern Television name is now used by a separate production company.
