A book featuring previously unseen Victoria Wood scripts is to be published this October.
Talking about Victoria Wood Unseen on TV, the publishers explain: "In the five years since Victoria Wood's death, one great sadness has been the realisation that we'll never again be surprised by new material from her.
"But now, as part of the research for the Sunday Times bestselling and critically acclaimed biography Let's Do It, her official biographer, Jasper Rees uncovered a treasure chest of unseen work. From her first piece of comic prose written for her school magazine through to material written for the great TV specials of her maturity and beyond, the store of her writing is full of secret gems that span nearly half a century."
Rees says: "In researching Victoria Wood's remarkable life story I was amazed to find in her archive so much brilliant unseen material. I am deeply grateful to the Victoria Wood Estate for giving permission to bring these rare and glinting gems into the light, and thrilled to continue a fruitful collaboration with Trapeze Books, who have shown such passion for keeping Victoria's flame alive."
Publisher Jamie Coleman adds: "Time and time again, readers of the magisterial Let's Do It said the same thing: that the joy with which they greeted this rich, detailed portrait of Victoria Wood on the page was tempered with a deep sadness at never being surprised by new material from that brain ever again. What Jasper has uncovered is a unique insight into the mind of an unsurpassed comedic genius and we couldn't be prouder to bring it to the attention of her legions of fans."
Victoria Wood Unseen on TV will be released in hardback and eBook formats on 28th October.
The publishers conclude: "From the first to the last, these are words that no one else could have written, which will make you laugh in the way that only she could."
