Phoebe Frances Brown

A £1,000 grant for a female filmmaker who has a comedy idea they want to produce.

The Phoebe Frances Brown Film Fund will offer a £1,000 grant to a female filmmaker who has a comedy idea they want to produce.

The fund is named after the writer and performer who lost her battle with brain cancer in April 2022, aged just 29.

The recipient of the fund will be decided by Mister Tibbs, the director collective run by Ben Mallaby, Tom Levinge and Sami Abusamra.

They say: "If you're a writer, director, producer, performer, animator, or some combination of those disciplines, if you identify as female, and if you make comedy, then we want to hear from you."

Reward

Aside from the £1,000, Mister Tibbs will screen the winner's work to industry professionals in London and Manchester in January 2026.

How to get involved

You need to submit three things:

YOUR STATEMENT - give a sense of your filmmaking experience to date, what you aim to achieve in your career and how this grant might help move you towards those goals. Introduce the project you want to make and how £1000 would help you produce it. Please keep your statement to 500 words maximum (or you can record a 3 minute video/audio clip if you find that easier).

YOUR WORK SAMPLE - can be whatever you like. An unmade script, a sketch, a short film or a live show excerpt. Show something that you've created which gives us a sense of your voice and your tone.

YOUR PROJECT - send a link to your script or pitch deck. Be bold. Make yours an original, idiosyncratic idea that will stand out from the crowd.
