They look really untidy. And I like clicking onto the branch of a forum and seeing what topics have made it to the top, but pinned threads get in the way. The worst offender is the Writers branch of this forum, which is clogged up with bloody pinned threads.
I can understand but they are the best way to keep important info in a visible place. For example, if you've been off a week and wanted to get up to speed on latest projects, you don't have to trawl through pages. Plus it's a visible place for newbies to pick up the 'for newbies' posts.
Some of the out-of-date sketch threads have been deleted and are being deleted as they lose topicality.
I'm not really a big fan of them either. One pinned "Read Me" thread which links to other important threads is useful though.
