Classic Farces

Rookery Nook is a farce by the English playwright Ben Travers based on his own 1923 novel. It was first performed at the Aldwych Theatre, London in 1926, the third in the series of twelve Aldwych farces presented by the actor-manager Tom Walls at the theatre between 1923 and 1933.

This is the 1970 BBC recording of the play, from the series Ben Travers' Farces starring Arthur Lowe, Richard Briers, Irene Handl, Moray Watson & Geoffrey Lumsden (Captain Square from Dad's Army).

Enjoy! (I shall post links to other classic farces on this thread periodically). You can thank me later.

When I have time, but have so much to catch up on now, especially with the Ken Dodd evening on BBC4 - I do so love Irene Handl in whatever she is in. so it is a must for me, to see, you see.

Charley's Aunt starring Eric Sykes & Jimmy Edwards (Brazil - where the nuts come from...)

Bank Holiday Monday. And, in the best traditions of Brian Rix, the most appropriate time to enjoy a good farce. No Brian Rix I'm afraid but this is a second one in the 1970 BBC series of Ben Travers Farces (see the initial post on this thread above). She Follows me About starring Arthur Lowe, Terence Alexander, Frank Thornton, Geoffrey Palmer, Bill Shine & Jonathan Cecil. To name but a few. 50 minutes.
