That takes me back to the early 60s

Yes I remember singing it on junior school coach trips. Well, the chorus anyway.

With Saturday's Cup Final in mind, here is Billy Cotton & his Band singing What a Referee from 1952. This was pre-VAR:

The song was co-written by Don Pelosi, Jimmy Harper and Jack Meadows. As well as being a songwriter, Meadows also played football for Clapton Orient (later to be called Leyton Orient) so he probably had some heartfelt reason for writing such a song. Don Pelosi also co-wrote Kiss Me Goodnight Sergeant Major while Jimmy Harper also co-wrote We'll Keep a Welcome in the Hillside.

Spurs v Leicester.

Spurs v Leicester.

More significant to me is all the kit as it should be - no sponsors and the ref in black, and NO weird colours!!!!

**EDIT Is that Danny Blanchflower?

**EDIT Is that Danny Blanchflower?

It certainly is. I have mentioned before on these pages that I named my first budgerigar "Danny" in his honour.
