This was a cracking laugh out loud comedy with fine acting, pathos and great characters (The bullyboy PE teacher Digby must have struck a cord with anyone who was at secondary school in the 1970s.
Series one is on Play.com amongst others.

Steal it then.
Wasn't Noddy Holder in this?
You quoted a post that had a DVD cover with him on!
I think I remember seeing this on ITV3 or ITV4 a few months back.
The Grimleys was by far the best sitcom of its day. Set in the Black Country, they had the accents down to a tee. The PE teacher, Digby, was like the head of PE at my old school in the 70s. People really did dress like that back then.
There were cameo appearances of well known 70s figures such as poet Pam Ayres, Tiswas presenter, Sally James, science man Johnny Ball, and pop stars Alvin Stardust and Noddy Holder in an alternative 70s where they chose other professions.
The TV in the Grimleys living room showed old 70s programes like On The Buses, and The Indoor League.
Also loved the second series, set at the time when I discovered the delights of the Sex Pistols and Sham 69. Beki, the lead singer of Vice Squad told me she is a big fan of the series.
I was only young when this was on but seemed to remember it quite well. Brian Conley, Noddy Holder and Amanda Holden were very good in it. I would say this was definitely comedy drama rather than sitcom though.
One scene I do remember was when Amanda Holden was teaching sex education and whipped off her clothes to reveal a very sexy corset. Phwoarrrrr!
Just a shame ITV haven't made anything like this for years.

Apparently this was from the 70's
