NJ: German Education Minister

JUSTIN:
Plagiarism. It's hard to pronounce - and even harder to get away with. Just ask Annette Schavan, who after being stripped of her doctorate, has had to resign this week as Germany's Education Minister.

FX: CROWD MURMURING

FX: ANNETTE CLEARS HER THROAT

ANNETTE:
I have never been a quitter. To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body. But as President, I must put the interest of America first.

Therefore, I shall resign the Presidency effective at noon tomorrow. Vice President Ford will be sworn in as President at that hour in this office.

Thank you.

A clever idea, but very subtle and asks a lot of the audience!

Agree its clever, but that huh? moment and having to confirm that it's what I suspected takes away from it. I think it would work better with a realistic resignation speech peppered with immediately recognizable lifted quotations.

Good one! Think Eoin's comment is valid, but works as a quickie. Maybe if you'd gone "four score years and ten ago..." it would have been doubly topical.
