Carling Stole My Sketch!!!!!!!!!

Why do I feel like i've just been shafted by Carling?

Heres my sketch I wrote in February this year. Read it then watch the advert link below.

SAINT PETER:
Welcome to the Pearly Gates. Your name is.

ED:
Ed. What just happened?

SAINT PETER:
You died. Date of birth.

ED:
March the 8th 1973. How did I die?

SAINT PETER:
Eggs.

ED:
Eggs?

SAINT PETER:
You got Ecoli from an egg and died. Earthly residence?

ED:
Farnborough, Kent. So I got into Heaven?

SAINT PETER:
If everything checks out, yes.

ED:
Sweet. What did I get in for?

SAINT PETER:
Good behaviour, specifically you brushed your teeth every day.

ED:
Brushing my teeth?

SAINT PETER:
Hygiene is very important. We can’t stink up heaven or else it
wouldn’t be heaven would it. Religion?

ED:
Christian, Church of England.

SAINT PETER:
Just checking the computer, it takes a minute. Any questions?

ED:
Is God a man or a woman?

SAINT PETER:
Well you can’t define god as…

ED:
Is there something wrong?

SAINT PETER:
Can’t let you in with trainers.

ED:
What?

SAINT PETER:
No trainers, it’s a Heaven policy.

ED:
Can I take them off?

SAINT PETER:
No sir. Step behind the rope, sir.

ED:
But where can I go?

SAINT PETER:
You can go to hell sir.

Think i'm making this up? Heres proof I wrote it in February https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/761

It was also featured on Purple Comedy Podcast Number 42 at 08:14 http://standupcomedy.podOmatic.com/entry/2007-09-08T09_09_22-07_00

Bloody hell my head is spinning. Did this actually happen or am I dreaming? I know i'm talking to myself but this is the most extraordinary thing thats ever happened to me. I'll never get to sleep now. Finally get something on TV but no credit for it. Man this is so crazy I think my head might explode :S

This is a review from their website http://www.carling.com/belong/space/

Sheryl from Dudley "The first time I saw it on TV I wasn't really paying attention and couldn't figure out what was going on but when it came on again I watch closely and I must say you have done it again! Another TV advert that was fun to watch!! I really liked it, whoever wrote it or thought it up is a very clever person indeed!! Keep the great ads coming!"

My God :O

Strangely, when I typed '"No trainers" punchline' into Yahoo to find other instances of this joke, I got a really interesting Andrew Collins blog as the first hit.

Adam, even though I'm not sure what they're trying to go to in that ad, you've been screwed! :O

The first thing I ever wrote was a sci-fi series which I came up with when I was 10. I spent 11 years working on it before I decided to put it to one side.

The plan was always to come back to it at a later date, when I was in a position to get it made.

Then 'Firefly' came out - which was my series. Characters, locations, plots - even the character names were the same. Joss Whedon stole my entire idea ... without me ever having shown it to anyone.

So either he's some kind of intercontinental mind-reading plagirist, or it's just a load of coincidences. My vote's on the second one: we're about the same age, he obviously got the same ideas from the same places I did.

The chances of some other writer coming up with a single line which is similar to yours?

It's a certainty.

Please tell me you haven't written a sketch about guys in a tent in the antarctic??

Yeah, the joke is the same but the context is completely different. It's just a joke based on a well known situation and so it's more than likely that more than one person, in the UK say, will have thought of it. We get people having the same ideas in the small population on this board. Multiply that by a national or world population and there is bound to be someone who has thought the same thing as you. There are probably hundreds who have thought of the idea.

Think how many times you see the same joke on tv just executed in a different way. Happens all the time.

Hey Adam, these guys blatantly work for Carling. *looks around suspiciously*

I would like to respond but I feel its best not to.

No, I just stole it from someone else.

Just so you know what I'm on about there.

That's a uniform resource locator (grins foolishly)

I'm so hip!

Well, I wrote the millionth one.

I thought that comment was specifically directed at me:

Sorry Adam, I don't think you've been shafted but I do think your sketch is ALOT better.

Carlsburg stole one of my sketch ideas. I thought it would be a good idea to have a big rock concert set up and then some drunk fat ladies went on the stage and did "I Will Survive" on karaoke. Carlsburg later did a variation on that.
