Unintentional comedy: I switched channels last week and caught a bit of Project America's Next Top Drag Queen, "Rupaul's Drag Race",( a show where drag queens compete in typical X factor stylee), at a point where a competitor broke down in tears saying s/he was so glad to have made it through to the next round, because she was living with HIV. Shortly after, she got rejected. Surely this was some sort of ultra-astute spoof, I thought; but no, it appears to be intended to be serious. Even so, if read as a spoof, it works extremely well, and was more spoof-like than Britain's Got The Pop Factor.

Any other examples?

We end up watching a lot of late night crap on the cable channels. But the best one, which is on Sky, was a show called 'How Do I Look' on the the Style Network or something. First time we switched over we thought we was watching a repeat from the 80s, turned out it was from the same week/month.

"Fashion disasters" would be invited on and two of their friends plus a real designer would compete to give them a makeover. At the end, they would have to pick the best "style".

This first episode we watched involved a woman, whose friends consisted of a "neighbour" and "random man off the street". Their budget was £200 and it was just awful. I'm no fashion expert, but the articles they were dressed in were just hilarious and yeah. I've typed too much up about this show...

I've just rediscovered 'Speak The Hungarian Rappper.' Although perhaps 'rapper' might be Hungarian for 'talker.' Bit old, but if you haven't seen before, you're in for a treat:

I think the best example of unintentional comedy I've seen is a Korean anime movie called Space Thunder Kids. It was supposed to be a serious anime, but it's so very awful that's it's brilliantly funny. Wooden voice acting and dialogue, terrible dubbing, mass technical problems, tanks appearing for no reason only to dissapear and never be mentioned again, and loads more. Here's some clips-

I'd certainly go to see it if it was shown at my local cinema, just to see everyone else's reaction, lol. But it can be bought on DVD from Amazon.com for less than $50 cents (plus shipping) and it can be downloaded for free from the Internet Archive. As I said, it's so awful that it's hilarious, well worth a watch at least once.

Now that I think about it, The Wicker Man remake from 2006 is also very unintentionally hilarious, if only for Nicholas Cage's completely over the top acting. Any horror film where the main character changes into a bear suit for no apparent reason and starts punching people can never be taken seriously, lol.

You really need to see the whole thing. Ridiculous plot and lots of terribly framed shots - some so bad the actors are half off screen.
