The Card (1952)

(Grrrr) "The Promoter" being the Yank title

Yet again, had seen it many years ago, but had forgotten the outcome.

It is I suppose what would be termed as a light hearted comedy, with the excellent Alec Guinness in the title part, with his nemesis Mr Grimsdale!! (Edward Chapman)

Love rivals in the shape of Petula Clark and Glynis Johns, who I have always had a soft spot for - also being the daughter of Mervyn Johns, who I like very much.

Surprisingly no Sam Kydd in this one, but there's Michael Hordern as Bank Manager (uncredited) and Wilfrid Hyde-White as Lord at Liverpool Boat Harbour (uncredited), both of whom had very minor parts.

Good story and I enjoyed it.

There's an impressive list of uncredited actors in that one, I see.
Peter Copley, Harold Goodwin, Ewen Solon, etc...

I bought the DVD of this film for some friends who live in Burslem in Staffordshire as it was based and filmed around there. Surprisingly, though, the football ground that featured was not Port Vale but Brentford.

That's interesting, Billy.
