Comedy Lab Cymru

A programme of opportunities for emerging Welsh (and Wales-based) talent.

Following last year's successful Artist Development Programme, Little Wander, Channel 4 and S4C are partnering to run Comedy Lab Cymru this year.

The programme aims to create new opportunities for emerging Welsh (and Wales-based) talent in comedy and TV.

The selected writers and performers will be paired with mentors to work on comedy pieces to be showcased to audiences and Channel 4 and S4C commissioners at the Machynlleth and Aberystwyth comedy festivals in 2025.

The programme will provide artists with paid development time, professional mentorship, industry masterclasses and opportunities to broaden their knowledge and experience of the comedy industry.

6 participants will be selected for the programme, with at least half of participants working in the Welsh language.

The organisers say: "We expect the selected participants to be at various stages in their careers and we are committed to tailoring the programme to suit their individual needs".

Comedy Lab Cymru 2023 showcase

Last year's participants included Caryl Burke (mentored by Elis James), Iestyn Jones (mentored by Tudur Owen), Laurie Watts (mentored by Carys Eleri), Carwyn Blayney (mentored by Tom Parry) and Edward Easton (mentored by Anna Jordan). With their mentors' support, they all wrote comedy pieces and performed them to live audiences at the Machynlleth and Aberystwyth festivals. They are all working on developing their shows further for the stage and screen.
