It's human nature to want a magic bullet. That lottery win that solves all your financial problems. That instant sitcom commission that... well, that solves all your financial problems.

But, whilst there's nothing wrong with aiming for the stars - where else would you aim? - it's important to try and devise a rational plan for getting there.

Obviously a very small number of people have sprung suddenly from nowhere and secured an original sitcom commission - either on television or radio. And a very small number of people will almost certainly achieve that feat again.
