Guide Spotlight
Guide Spotlight Mann's Best Friends

Originally broadcast in 1985, this is a little bit of a lost sitcom from Roy Clarke, the celebrated writer of Open All Hours, Last Of The Summer Wine, Keeping Up Appearances, and many others. It follows Hamish Ordway, a freshly retired official from the water board, played expertly by Porridge's sternest warden, Fulton Mackay. He's pointed toward renting a room from Henry Mann, proprietor of a lodging house - once a splendid Edwardian villa - and is horrified at the chaos he finds within. Mann was domineered by his recently deceased mother, who also ran the house and organised its residents, and so has no skills of his own to keep control. Somewhat vague and distant, he is nevertheless keen to bring some semblance of order to his home: could Ordway be the perfect solution...? Guide
