A weekly topical panel show based around 'opinion polls, surveys and statistics'. It is hosted by Jimmy Carr and the regular team captains are Sean Lock and Jon Richardson.
The teams thrash out the hot topics of the week by examining surveys, opinion polls and statistics; discussing both silly and serious stuff. Subjects include showbiz gossip, world politics and even the weather.
Jon Richardson is a relatively new regular on the show. Previously, the team captain opposing Lock was Jason Manford, and before that it was Dave Spikey.
Our Review: A fairly cheap panel show which is dragged down by its habit of selecting at least one poor guest every episode (thick celebrities and ex-reality TV stars regularly appear).
However, 8 Out Of 10 Cats does have many moments of hilarity, thanks mostly to the wit of the three regulars, particularly the team captains who manage to save any conversation that starts flounder with quick-witted gags.
Whilst 8 Out Of 10 Cats might not be the best panel show ever made, if you've got nothing else to do in an evening it can prove itself to be an enjoyable enough link in your comedy viewing schedule.
The show should also be commended for giving many new comics their first TV credit.
The thing is though, the show is now well past Series 9, and what is it they say about cats and lives? Perhaps that phrase doesn't work though - the spin-off format 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown has further expanded the programme's appeal recently.
