Making sure you have a proper storyline in place before you start writing your script is crucial. Here are three elements to bear in mind when you're working on a storyline.

Does your story come from character?

Character, as you should have learnt by now, is key to creating a good sitcom. It's therefore essential that your storyline comes from, as opposed to being imposed upon, your characters.

Your characters should generate the stories; their comic flaws should generate the problems which fuel the storyline. If you're having difficulties coming up with storylines, go back to your characters.
