John's show, The Early Word, features of all of John's off-kilter wit and whimsy. With this poster John and I wanted to create the literal version of the word play being hinted at in the title of the show. John was recreated as a bird (with all of his adorable melancholy) serenading a (John Hegley-drawn) worm - situated on top of the world. It was important to caricature him well enough as the bird for it to be recognisable as John by his fans.
