Entry now open for Musical Comedy Awards 2014

Musical Comedy Awards

The Musical Comedy Awards, the organisation that aims to locate and then support up-and-coming comedians that have a talent for music, is now gearing up for its sixth year.

The contest, which has previous featured the likes of Frisky & Mannish and Abandoman in its finals, will once again be sponsored by WeGotTickets when it returns in 2014.

To enter the contest, acts should post a video of their original musical comedy material to the organisation's Facebook page

The deadline is the 15th December 2013.

The top 40 entries, as selected by judges, will then be asked to perform in heats in London in early 2014.

This year the heats move to the Black Heart pub in Camden, because the previous location that was used - The Wilmington Arms - is no longer a live performance venue. The trials will run on Saturdays from 11th January until 1st February, with the quarter finals in February and semi-finals in March. The grand final will be held at the Bloomsbury Theatre on the 25th April 2014.

Each heat of the competition will feature an established act for additional entertainment for the crowd, with Earl Okin, Loretta Maine, Adam Kay, Jay Foreman and last year's winners Hill & Weedon amongst those set to headline.

Acts that have entered in previous years are welcome to enter again. Organisers Ed Chappel and Tamara Cowan explain: "If you have entered before, you are welcome to post an existing video as your entry - we will of course be thrilled to see new material if you make it through to the heats, but if you just want to throw your hat into the ring and haven't necessarily got time to make a new video, do feel free to enter an existing one."

Video problems should also not stop acts entering. Chappel and Cowan say: "If you are, for any reason, having issues with videos and would be interested in a live audition in early December, please drop us a line (ed@musicalcomedy.co.uk) and we'll see if there is sufficient demand for a live audition."

Ed and Tamara conclude: "We are very excited about all the entries we have already received, especially from new acts that we have never encountered before. We can't wait to see the rest of the entries and for another amazing celebration of the UK's best musical comedy talent!"
