The internet is overflowing with advice for budding comedy writers and comedians, though much of it is... well, let's just say not entirely accurate.
This shouldn't be very surprising. Much of the material is written from an American point of view - and the British comedy industry is quite different to America's. There are few writersrooms for fledgling writers to join (though there are some, revolving mostly around the handful of satirical programmes in production). Sitcom series tend to run for 6 episodes, written by one or two writers. There is no standardised seasonal mechanism for commissioning.
