Radio: the 4 building blocks

We recently discussed the importance of radio to new writers (and, actually, new performers).

Whilst there are many similarities, there are also obvious differences between writing for television and radio. It can help, therefore, to think in terms of the "four building blocks".

These are speech, sound effects, music and silence. Let's examine each in turn.

1) Speech

The most important element of your script. This is largely how you will communicate your characters, tell your stories - and, crucially, make the audience laugh.
