Series 7, Episode 5 - How The Welsh Spend Money

Kiri Pritchard-McLean looks for more funny clips in the BBC Wales archive to discover the things big and small that the Welsh like to spend their money on.

Further details

In this episode, Kiri takes a look through the archives at how the Welsh like to spend their money. One feature from the 1970s showcases the various holiday options in Wales, from an all-inclusive family hotel stay at the seaside in Tenby to holiday camps in Barry Island, and the many caravan sites across Wales for a budget break.

Another clip features four friends who moved to north Wales to raise their children. Having previously knitted for people in London, they saw that there wasn't anything similar to buy where they were, so they started knitting garments out of pure lambswool as a way to earn a living. This expanded into a successful business - Fern & Dee Knitwear - which eventually saw them picking up orders from top London fashion retailers.

Other archive clips include a Cardiff toy fair, the cost of Easter eggs and the decimalisation of currency in Wales.
