Programme following the National Theatre of Scotland as they prepared to tour their version of the classic comedy drama Tutti Frutti.

Narrated by Billy Boyd, the documentary features the TV cast of Tutti Frutti - including Robbie Coltrane, Richard Wilson and Maurice Roeves - as they reflected on its phenomenal success. The one-off documentary follows rehearsals for the National Theatre of Scotland's stage adaptation as they prepared to tour the show across Scotland.

Featuring contributions from writer and creator John Byrne, as well as insights from the actors tasked with transforming the roles from screen to stage: Tom Urie, Dawn Steele and Julie Wilson Nimmo.

Having worked with Robbie Coltrane on The Slab Boys, Byrne reveals he wrote the part of Danny McGlone in Tutti Frutti especially for him. While the part of Danny fell onto Coltrane's doormat, with the National Theatre production, actor Tom Urie had to pester the director to audition for the lead.

As this documentary highlights, the part of Suzy Kettles in the TV series was filled by English actress Emma Thompson, who had to perfect her Glaswegian accent to land the role. However, in the stage show, Scottish actress Dawn Steele faced another challenge altogether - playing lead guitar for the first time.

Featuring archive clips from the acclaimed series and behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the stage show, Tutti Frutti: Return Of The Majestics is an affectionate celebration of Tutti Frutti's enduring appeal.
