Produced for broadcast in 1982, Then Churchill Said To Me was pulled by the BBC at the Argentinian invasion of the Falkland Islands and the outbreak of war. The series eventually premiered on UK Gold in 1993, after Howerd's death, and was released on VHS in the same year.

The BBC did not broadcast the series until 2000.
