In the last leg of their tour, the duo depart Granada and reach Malaga, where Steve receives some more unfortunate news.

Further details

Steve and Rob reach the end of their once-in-a-lifetime trip through the cultural and culinary high points of Spain. After checking out the Moorish citadel of the Alhambra, they then depart Granada and head south down the incredible hills and wind farms flanking the road towards the Costa del Sol, where they reach their final destination of Malaga for a spot of tapas. Sadly, Steve receives some heartbreaking news, which throws the rest of his time in Spain into a different light. Resolving to use the time productively, he asserts he will finish his memoirs. "I think the word you're looking for is start", snipes Rob.

Location Guide

Before departing from Granada, make sure you visit one of Spain's most treasured historical sites - The Alhambra. Found in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, it acted as palace, citadel and fortress to the Nasrid dynasty. It remains emblematic of the Moorish domination of Spain from their arrival in 711 to their expulsion in 1492 by Los Reyes Católicos, Ferdinand and Isabella.

Heading south past the incredible hills and wind farms that flank the road, you'll enter the Costa del Sol and the city of Málaga, birthplace of Picasso and the final stop on a once-in-a-lifetime road trip. To see you off, visit El Refectorium, a popular and very well regarded tapas restaurant, for some traditional Malaguese cuisine. Afterwards, for the best view of the city, make the climb to the magnificent Castillo de Gibralfaro, another symbol of Spain's Moorish ancestry.

And with those spectacular views the trip comes to an end. Although if you did want to stay a while longer the mountains of Andalusia are not far, and Africa is only a ferry ride away...

The Trip: a show about death that deserves to live on

Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan's show is an absurd meditation on ageing - and as the years go by, it just gets better. It would be a grave mistake to stop it now.

Preview - The Trip to Spain

Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon's dining trip around Spain ends tonight, with one of them ending up in a spot of bother.

Ian Wolf, On The Box, 11th May 2017

It's the end of the road for Michael Winterbottom's superlative road trilogy, with a climax that utterly pulls the rug out from under our feet, while wryly commenting on themes explored throughout the series. Before we get to that, though, there's the Alhambra citadel and Málaga to drink in, and a riff on Anthony Hopkins channelling Picasso as William Bligh of HMS Bounty ("I'll put the nose where the cheek is, damn your eyes, sir!"). Amazing.
