Canal lock-keeper, Davey, falls for Scottish barge owner Sarah when she has to stay at his cottage whilst her boat is repaired. Unfortunately Sarah tends to see Davey as a jack-the-lad (he *does* have previous) and only marginally better than pond (or river) scum. Davey also has to content with interfering Aunty Betty and his utterly barmy-and-incompetent assistant Tom Pike.
