The Old Guys trivia

This comedy is a result of the BBC's Last Laugh Talent Search. The pilot was written by Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong and competition winner James Donohue. Simon Blackwell is writing the full series.

Roger Lloyd-Pack said he laughed more times making this show than on any other job.

A pilot episode of The Old Guys was filmed two years prior to the full series being made. It has never been shown on TV. Clive Swift (who played Roy in the pilot too) said he felt the characters' relationship in the pilot "was very thin" but this has been corrected in the full series.

The writers say that the characters of Roy and Tom are not specifically based on anyone they know, but when they were developing the show they saw two older guys having a game of tennis in the park. Apparently, one was in a "sort of artist's smock and weird shorts" and the other was "rather trim".
