The new Generation Game is a woeful flop

We can only hope Brucie and Larry were not looking down from Variety Heaven. Mel and Sue turned their flagship into an embarrassing travesty.

Christopher Stevens, Daily Mail, 2nd April 2018

The Generation Game attracts 5.2 million viewers

It looked like the knives were truly out for Mel and Sue ahead of their first episode of the rebooted version of The Generation Game, but they still managed to pull in a respectable amount of viewers.

Daniel Welsh, The Huffington Post, 2nd April 2018

Feelings of loss surrounding Bruce Forsyth are assuaged by this reboot, with Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins hosting two episodes reviving the 70s gameshow. Families compete in plate-spinning and teapot-throwing challenges, with Lorraine Kelly, Richard Osman and Martin Kemp acting as celebrity insurance.

David Stubbs, The Guardian, 1st April 2018

When The Generation Game was a national institution during the 1970s and 80s, Bruce Forsyth and subsequent hosts were joined by a female co-host. Here, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins take charge of the proceedings. Star judges will assess how the teams are getting on during their challenges.

Mel & Sue hit back at 'The Generation Game' detractors

'We are not trying to change it or hurt the brand.'

The Generation Game, BBC1, review

Latest reboot lacked Brucie's genius for the impromptu.

Jeff Robson, i Newspaper, 1st April 2018

Generation Game on a Sunday night? That's sacrilege!

In terms of what we should expect from prime time Easter television, this fell well short of the mark. And it focuses the mind on what we should be saying to those responsible for entertainment at the BBC: stop trying to revisit the past. Go away and think up some original ideas.

Gerard O'Donovan, The Telegraph, 1st April 2018
