Pete Dodds is an ex-amateur boxing champion and something of a clown in the ring. He has confidence galore and loves to entertain but he doesn't want to get his face hurt too much. Tom Sprake, his new manager, is determined to make him more dedicated and assigns him Dave Locket, a trainer who is immediately loathed by Pete. But the feeling is mutual and the animosity that arises brings out the ugly side in Pete - which is just what the team wanted.
