As 5C prepare to enter the real world, Hedges is increasingly worried about Dennis's employment prospects, or lack thereof. Can he come up with a position that'll allow him close to the animals he loves?

With the end of the school term approaching, most of Fenn Street's form 5C are already fixed up with jobs, but animal-loving Dennis Dunstable still has no apparent futre.
Then teacher Bernard Hedges has a brainwave which looks like the solution. He suggests Dennis for a stable-lad's job down at the local brewery.
But Dunstable's dad has other ideas.
