David Walliams's fairytale anthology series, After Ever After, is returning to Sky this Christmas with a sequel to Little Red Riding Hood, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal, as production also gears up for a television movie of his first sequel novel, Gangsta Granny Strikes Again!.

Following Christmas specials on Hansel & Gretel, Jack And The Beanstalk and Cinderella, the fourth instalment of the festive comedy drama will air on Sky Max in December.

It will reunite Walliams with comedian Jack Carroll, who was runner-up in the 2013 Britain's Got Talent final and was subsequently cast by the Little Britain star in his 2014 BBC sitcom Big School, appearing alongside Walliams and Catherine Tate.

Carroll's part in Little Red Riding Hood currently remains under wraps, as does Walliams's and the identity of the actor in the title role. But the stand-up posted an image of himself in costume from the set, with the message "Welcome to the Carnival ...":

Having just returned to the UK after filming Australia's Got Talent, Walliams has narrated and played Prince Charming, The Giant and The Troll in previous episodes of After Ever After, appearing alongside Sian Gibson as Cinderella in 2019, Eddie Karanja as Jack in 2020 and Sheridan Smith as the witch last year, with Bill Bekele and Lilly Aspell as Hansel and Greta.

Made by his production company King Bert, After Ever After is written by Walliams with the Dawson Brothers - Steve Dawson, Andrew Dawson and Tim Inman. The trio's credits include Walliams & Friend and Horrible Histories.

Little Red Riding Hood is directed by Tracey Rooney (Class Dismissed) and produced by Nick Leadbitter, who served as assistant producer on After Ever After's previous episodes.

Meanwhile, casting is currently underway for Gangsta Granny II.

An adaptation of Gangsta Granny Strikes Again!, which was published in November and caught up with the continuing adventures of Ben, despite the death of his beloved burglar grandmother from the original 2011 bestseller, it follows the first book in being developed for the screen.

The 2013 one-off comedy drama special was adapted by Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley (After Ever After, Year Of The Rabbit) for BBC One at Christmas and starred Reece Buttery as Ben and Julia McKenzie as his grandmother, with Williams and Miranda Hart as the boy's parents and an ensemble cast that included Joanna Lumley, Rob Brydon, Jocelyn Jee Esien, Steve Speirs and singer Robbie Williams.

Gangsta Granny

She's an OAP with attitude!

When Mum and Dad drop schoolboy Ben off to stay at his granny's for the evening, he expects the usual - boring old cabbage soup, never-ending knitting and endless scrabble with his equally boring grandma. Until one day, Ben's granny tells him an incredible story... that she was once known as the 'Black Cat', a notorious international jewel thief! Together they go on a wild adventure to complete the one heist she never quite managed in her criminal heyday: to break into the Tower of London and steal the crown jewels.

Based on the best-selling book by David Walliams and boasting an impressive all-star cast including Joanna Lumley, Rob Brydon, Miranda Hart, Julia McKenzie and a cameo from pop star Robbie Williams, Gangsta Granny is a must-see comedy treat for all the family.
