The Trip, the semi-improvised comedy travelogue featuring Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan visiting restaurants in the Lake District, could be remade for American television, it has been revealed.

Revolution Films, one of the production companies behind the BBC Two series, is currently talking to the corporation about producing a second series in Italy.

Speaking to industry publication Screen International, Revolution's co-founder, Andrew Eaton, said: "We're curious of the idea of an American version of The Trip, which we're talking to a few people about that for American TV.

"The way to do it if you wanted to open it up for a wider audience in America is to do it with American comedians. It could be fun. If you got the right people it's an interesting format, you could try it anywhere really."

Directed by another Revolution co-founder, Michael Winterbottom, The Trip's first series was broadcast as a 6x half-hour series on BBC Two late last year, and re-cut as a 107-minute film that was released in various international locations earlier in 2011.
