Peter Kay, co-writer and co-star of Channel 4 sitcom Phoenix Nights, has revealed that he has been approached to produce a film adaptation of the series.

Following the continued box office success of The Inbetweeners Movie, Kay has claimed in a radio interview that he has been asked if he is interested in making a big screen version of the working mens' club-set sitcom, but added "The biggest problem is getting everyone together."

Peter Kay, who is known as much for being ruthlessly ambitious as for his comedy, famously fell out with his fellow writers on the series, Neil Fitzmaurice and Dave Spikey (who also co-created and starred alongside him in the show), after being seen to take all of the credit for Phoenix Nights and its success.

A spin-off, Max And Paddy's Road To Nowhere, was produced in 2004, which Kay co-wrote and co-starred in alongside Patrick McGuinness. He also revealed - in the interview, with Real Radio North West - that they had written two Christmas specials of the series, which could be turned into film scripts.

If Kay can reconcile his differences with Spikey and Fitzmaurice, a Phoenix Nights film has the potential to become another huge cinema success for Film4, it is believed.
