Netflix has commissioned a second series of Mae Martin's addiction/relationship comedy, Feel Good.

However, Channel 4 - which originally backed Series 1 - has discontinued its involvement in the programme.

Series 2 will also be the show's finale, before Martin, co-writer Joe Hampson and producers Objective Fiction move on to a new series for the US-based streaming platform, which is currently in development.

Producers tease: "Mae and George's complicated love story continues as Mae struggles to come to terms with the ghosts from her past and George tries to reinvent her present. Can they grow together or will they grow apart?"

Co-starring Charlotte Ritchie, Sophie Thompson, Lisa Kudrow, Phil Burgers and Adrian Lukis, amongst others, the first series was broadcast in March on Channel 4 and received critical praise.

The semi-autobiographical series follows recovering addict Mae, a gay Canadian stand-up living in England. When she falls for a girl who's become a regular at the comedy club where she performs, they find themselves in a whirlwind romance and Mae's addictive personality traits come to the fore once more.

The first series followed their blossoming relationship and Mae's struggles with sobriety, as well as her new girlfriend, George's, first experience as part of a lesbian couple.

Series 2 is expected to be released by Netflix in 2021.

Mae Martin said today: "I 'm beyond excited to be able to return to the world of Feel Good, and to see Mae and George's love story through to the dramatic conclusion we had always planned. I'm really deeply attached to this story and I'm so grateful to be getting back to work with the incredible team at Objective Fiction and our hilarious cast.

"Having spent most of 2020 speaking only to my kettle and my television as I watched the world burn on the internet, I'm euphoric to be around other human beings again. Seeing Joe Hampson's and my dumb jokes come to life is heaven. Thank you, Netflix!"

Series 2, which is currently filming in London, will reunite Martin with Kudrow and Lukis as her parents; Ritchie as George; and Burgers as the couple's flatmate.

New members of the cast include Anthony Head, Jordan Stephens, John Ross Bowie, Eleanor Matsuura, Eve and Marisha Wallace.
