The BBC announced today that it has ordered a second series of John Bishop's Britain.

The confirmation comes after Objective Productions issued a call for extras in February, to share their stories on a second series of the show.

Hosted by John Bishop, the format sees the Liverpudlian comedian presenting viewers with a mix of stand-up, sketches and real-life stories from members of the Great British public.

The new series, made up of six half-hour episodes, will be broadcast on BBC One this summer on Saturday nights. As in Series 1, the programmes will be filmed in front of a live audience in Manchester and present viewers with a mix of stand-up and real life stories from celebrities and members of the Great British public. Bishop will again perform a stand-up set based on universal themes, this time including topics such as food, music & fashion, friends and pets.

John Bishop says: "I am thrilled that BBC One have agreed to a second series and just hope that everyone enjoys it as much as the first one."

The first series of John Bishop's Britain proved popular with the public in its Saturday night slot, averaging 4.2 million viewers per episode. Executive Producer Lee Hupfield says: "After such a successful first series we are delighted John Bishop's Britain has been recommissioned for a second series. It's a fantastic feel-good family show and it's great to be working with John again."

The BBC's Karl Warner adds: "John continues to go from strength to strength as a performer and has quickly established himself as part of the comedy elite on BBC One. We love working with him and think this second series is going to get even better."

Series 1 is currently enjoying a repeat run on the channel. The final episode will be broadcast this Saturday at 9:30pm.
