Tim Vine, the self-styled 'king of the one-liners' and one of the stars of sitcom Not Going Out, could be getting his own prime-time comedy show on BBC One.

The comedian is currently developing a new show for the channel called Tim Vine Travels In Time, which will mix sitcom elements with his trademark stand-up style featuring rapid-fire puns and one-liners.

An early run-through of Tim Vine Travels In Time will take place at The Latchmere theatre in Battersea next Monday in front of a small audience. Producers say the show will deliver comedy featuring "Tim's usual gag-packed style".

The pilot episode sees Vine playing a version of himself as he travels back in time to the Medieval age. There he meets Robin Hood and undertakes a quest to introduce the heroic outlaw to the beautiful Maid Marian.

The producers say: "If you think Mr Ben meets Robin Hood, you'll be on the right track!"

Should the BBC order the show, the full series will see Vine travelling back in time to other periods of history too for more 'gag-filled' adventures.

As well as a popular live performer, Tim Vine is currently one of the main stars of Lee Mack's hit BBC One sitcom, Not Going Out. It was recently reported that Vine wants to quit Not Going Out; although there has been no firm confirmation of this newspaper gossip, this news that he is looking to develop his own show will likely increase the speculation as to what Vine's plans are in regards to Not Going Out.
