CBBC sitcom So Awkward extended to Series 5

  • CBBC sitcom So Awkward will return for Series 4 this summer
  • Series 5 has now been ordered - 13 more episodes for 2019
  • CBBC has also ordered spin-off mini-series The So Awkward Files

CBBC's So Awkward has been extended to a fifth series. The new 13-part run has been ordered before Series 4 has even aired.

So Awkward, created by Julie Bower, follows the adventures of as series of school children. It is noted for portraying intelligent 'straight A' students in a positive light.

The award-winning sitcom will return for a 12-part fourth series this summer, with the newly ordered Series 5 set to air in 2019.

It's also been revealed today that the sitcom will follow in the footsteps of The 4'Clock Club by getting its own behind-the-scenes spin-off. The So Awkward Files - six fifteen minute episodes - will see the So Awkward characters reflecting on their time at Cranmede High and discussing their favourite moments. This mini-series will be released on BBC iPlayer and CBBC in early 2019, putting it between Series 4 and Series 5.

Talking about the commissions, Alan Marke, Managing Director of Channel X, says "It's great to have a new series of So Awkward commissioned before the release of Series 4. So Awkward has gone from strength to strength and relates to so many teen experiences. We're excited to see where the show can go next!"
