  • ITV2 comedy Safeword - in which guests have their media accounts hijacked - is to be remade in America
  • The producers of Lip Sync Battle are making the new series, which begins on MTV on Thursday 13th July
  • Terrence J will host, with guests set to include Kevin Hart, Marlon Wayans and Kelly Rowland

Safeword, the comedy game show format in which celebrities were 'roasted', is to be brought to American audiences in a new version made by MTV.

Safeword ran for two series on ITV2 in 2015 and 2016. Each episode sees two teams, made up of a celebrity guest and two comedians, compete in a competitive 'roast' format. The celebrities have their public profiles scrutinised and their social media accounts 'hijacked', which continues until they use their 'safeword' to make it stop.

The UK version of the show was hosted by Rick Edwards, with Katherine Ryan and David Morgan as the team captains (pictured). The new American version has been made by the team who created Lip Sync Battle and is hosted by Terrence J, an actor and presenter who has previously worked on E! News and music show 106 & Park.

Industry website Deadline reports the new series has already been recorded in front of a live audience, with celebrities featured during the series set to include Kevin Hart, Damien Dante Wayans, Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges, Marlon Wayans, Kelly Rowland and Nelly.

Safeword will start on MTV on Thursday 13th July 2017 at 11:30pm. It will be linked with hip-hop improv show Wild 'N Out to form a programme block called 'Throwdown Thursdays'.
