Channel 4 has announced Host The Week, a new comedy entertainment commission.

The format sees a celebrity guest unwittingly being "both host and hero for one night only."

Three hour long shows have been ordered, following a non-broadcast pilot filmed earlier this year.

Host The Week has been developed by Tiger Aspect Productions, the production company behind Murder In Successville.

The producers explain: "Across every show, the host will take on roles in a number of topical sketches as they're placed into a series of unconventional situations, with no hint at what's going to take place next. Other items will see them co-host a satirical news show, present their own chat show, and even play host to a game show with real life contestants. Each segment will warmly celebrate the guest host's life and career whilst also providing topical comedy.

"Leading our star through this immersive and adrenaline-charged experience will be our troupe of talented improvisers and character comedians - directed by Tom Parry from award winning sketch group Pappy's. With surprise celebrity guests, top music acts, singers and dancers - Host The Week is a brand new electrifying entertainment experience."

Gogglebox star and Virtually Famous regular Scarlett Moffatt (pictured) will be the first guest host "thrust into the limelight", with a second and third host due to be announced in due course.

Ed Havard from Channel 4 says: "This hilarious and topical hybrid show will offer a unique televisual experience for viewers as anything can, and probably will happen. With the smash hit Murder In Successville, Tiger Aspect has an excellent track record in organised TV chaos and we hope to deliver something just as brilliant."

Ben Cavey, joint Managing Director of Tiger Aspect, adds: "Tiger Aspect Entertainment continues to develop brilliantly inventive and original ideas, so it makes absolute sense that our next generation comedy entertainment show Host The Week has found its home at Channel 4 who have always been at the forefront of distinctive and ground-breaking programme making."

Host The Week will be filmed as live in front of a studio audience, with the first episode set to be recorded on Wednesday 21st June (Tickets). It will be shown on television a day later, 9pm on Thursday 22nd June.
