ITV2 has commissioned Action Team, a new comedy series from the creative talent behind the award-winning BBC Three format Murder In Successville (pictured).

Action Team is a spoof spy action-thriller series that follows the exploits of a top-secret team of special agents working for the British government and charged with saving the world.

The show will star Murder In Successville's Tom Davis alongside Jim Howick (Loaded), Kayode Ewumi (#HoodDocumentary) and Laura Checkley (Detectorists).

The six-part series has been written by Davis and Murder In Successville director James De Frond (who will also direct this new show).

Tom Davis says: "Every year I sit there as the bookies predict who they think will play the next James Bond and I'm always left off the list, so I've decided to do something about it."

ITV commissioner Saskia Schuster comments: "Think The Naked Gun meets The Bourne Identity in this high octane, big scale comedy featuring a dysfunctional group of spies. Fast paced, high concept and crammed with silly jokes."

Paul Mortimer from ITV adds: "Action Team is a great new addition to ITV2's slate of original comedy and also continues our investment in quality entertainment for younger audiences. Tom and James have a great track record in delivering hit comedy and we're thrilled to be partnering with them on their latest series."

Action Team will be shown on ITV2 in early 2018.
