BBC One is piloting a new sitcom called Mister Winner.

The comedy is about "a hapless but loveable chap prone to accidents".

Leslie Winner, the central character, is played by Spencer Jones. The comedian is perhaps best known to live comedy audiences for his gormless prop-based character act, known as The Herbert.

As the character, he has appeared on TV shows including Live At The Apollo, Live From The BBC and this year's Comic Relief telethon. Jones's other sitcom roles include playing Kevin in Still Open All Hours and the Gervais-like actor Kempe in Upstart Crow.

A pilot episode of Mister Winner has already been filmed, which sees Mr Winner attempt to propose to his girlfriend.

The episode will be screened at the BBC Radio Theatre in London on Tuesday 16th May to record a live laughter track for the episode. Tickets

Further details about the programme are expected to be revealed in due course.
