Stand-ups to perform on Brexit-themed TV show

Jamali Maddix

VICELAND, the youth-focused TV channel, has announced a new comedy show.

Brexit Stage Left will see stand-up Jamali Maddix and three of his stand-up comedian pals - Fern Brady, Alfie Brown and Sean McLoughlin - on a quick-fire stand-up comedy tour of Europe "to find out if anyone outside Britain actually cares about the UK's exit from the European Union".

The producers explain: "Each episode of the four-part series is centred around one comedian and their respective relationship with that city. Touring Dublin, Amsterdam, Berlin and Copenhagen, the group of comedians sample the weird and well-known delights of each city, befriending some locals, before performing a live, stand-up gig.

"Attracted by its liberal attitudes, Jamali Maddix takes Fern Brady on her first trip to Amsterdam to visit a coffee shop and take a spin around Vondelpark on a tandem. Frequently voted the 'happiest place to live', Alfie Brown explores Copenhagen's strong sense of community with Jamali; Fern Brady and Alfie Brown explore the unofficial European 'Capital Of Cool': Berlin; and Sean McLoughlin explores his heritage in Dublin with Brady."

This will be the second show Maddix has starred in on the VICE Media-owned channel. It follows on from his documentary series Hate Thy Neighbour.

Kevin Sutcliffe from VICELAND says: "Brexit is a very serious issue for millions of people and in this era of fake news and snap elections we thought the only sensible thing to do was send four comedians to find out what is really going on."

Yonni Usiskin, the Executive Producer of Brexit Stage Left, said: "VICELAND is fast becoming a new home for the next generation of UK comedy talent. Jamali came to us with the concept and in a matter of weeks we were up and running on location. This is a great example of how great ideas can become a reality in a very short space of time at VICELAND."

Brexit Stage Left will be shown on VICELAND later this year.
