  • Man Down, the sitcom created by and starring Greg Davies, is to return for a fourth series
  • Channel 4 has ordered six more episodes, which will be broadcast in 2017

It has been confirmed today that Greg Davies is working on a fourth series of his hit sitcom Man Down.

Channel 4 has ordered another six episodes, which will be shown in 2017.

Man Down, which launched in 2013, follows the story of Dan, a childish idiot trapped in an adult's life. He has crushing character flaws, a uniquely dysfunctional set of friends, and a teaching job he loathes.

BroadcastNow notes the comedy has been performing well for Channel 4: "The third series went out over the summer and averaged a consolidated audience of 1.2m, despite clashing with the Olympics."

Roisin Conaty and Mike Wozniak are expected to return as friends Jo and Brian, and Gwyneth Powell and Stephanie Cole will reprise their roles as Dan's doting mother and no-nonsense auntie.

It is not yet clear whether Tony Robinson, who joined the cast as the scheming Deadalus in Series 3, will return; or whether Isy Suttie will reprise her role as Dan's potential new love interest Miss Clarke.

Speaking to British Comedy Guide recently, Robinson said it was "wonderfully liberating" to play the evil character and, when asked whether he'd be up for returning to the show, said: "Yeah, I see Greg, and we talk about it, but it's going to be down to him and Channel 4 whether it actually happens or not. If the call comes I'd be there like a shot. [My character] is certainly not dead. And do I know more than I'm telling you? I'm not going to tell you!"

The last series of Man Down, which was broadcast in August, ended with a cliff-hanger. Viewers were left wondering whether Dan would follow his on-off girlfriend Emma to America, or stay in England with his family and Miss Clarke. Series 4 is expected to pick up the story where the last series left off.

Channel 4 has yet to officially announce the recommission and more details will become available when it does.

It is a busy time for Greg Davies, with channel Dave having recently confirmed 16 more episodes across two new series of Taskmaster, the comedic challenge show he hosts.
