  • Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins have got their first hosting job since leaving The Great British Bake Off
  • The duo will present the prime-time entertainment series Let's Sing And Dance For Comic Relief
  • The show will launch on BBC One on Saturday nights ahead of Comic Relief 2017

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins have a new TV hosting job. Their tenure fronting The Great British Bake Off may have come to an end, but it has now been announced the double-act will host Let's Sing And Dance For Comic Relief.

The prime-time series will follow the same format as Let's Dance For Comic Relief, which has now run for several years, but with a singing contest added. The BBC explains the show will see guests "donning more fantastic outfits and learning more iconic dance routines for Comic Relief", but this time around "the willing participants will be taking the mic as well as busting out some moves, as they have to sing as well as perfect the iconic dance routines from some of pop's biggest hits".

As hosts, Giedroyc and Perkins will "have access all areas to the performing celebrities' routines; breath-taking - in more ways than one - vocals; and they will even hit the streets of Britain to enlist the great British public in some of the biggest dance-offs ever".

The celebrity contestants taking part in the series have yet to be confirmed.

Sue Perkins says: "I'm thrilled to be co-presenting Let's Sing And Dance For Comic Relief, not least because it will finally show the world why I was voted West Penwith's Krumping Champion (over 40s category)."

Mel Giedroyc jokes: "Since leaving the Royal Ballet twelve years ago, Mel is really looking forward to getting back on her points and showing the brave Comic Relief celebrity dancers how to split leap and ball change. She's delighted to be taking time out from her busy schedule at the Royal Opera House (she was recently called "a complete and utter Tosca" in the starring role of the eponymous opera) to take part in co-hosting duties for Let's Sing And Dance For Comic Relief."

Kate Phillips from the BBC comments: "Bringing Mel & Sue to BBC One on a Saturday night is hugely exciting. Their warmth, wit, charm and chemistry married with their genuine love of entertainment are all a perfect fit for Let's Sing And Dance For Comic Relief. They will challenge contestants to stretch their hamstrings, vocal chords and of course don red noses in the most memorable way possible."

Let's Sing And Dance For Comic Relief will be on BBC One next year ahead of Red Nose Day 2017, which has been set for Friday 24th March.
